Best food subscriptions to give away for 2021

This story is part of 2021 Holiday Gift Guide, our list of ideas, by theme, by recipient and by price, to help you discover the ideal gift.

Food subscriptions are great last-minute giveaways, especially for all the hard-to-buy types. It’s also an easy way to find the best produce from independent producers, as most restaurant clubs source monthly from smaller, lesser-known businesses.

If you think you’d like to give someone a little yum monthly food subscription this vacation, finding the best food club or monthly subscription to gift your friends, family, or coworkers takes a bit of digging (and tasting) and we ‘ve done a lot. From Coffee and tea clubs at snack box subscriptions, Meat and seafood delivery and lots of great booze options, you can find a bespoke bite for anyone on your list.

Read on for the best (yes, I bravely tested them) food and drink subscriptions to give someone this vacation.

Important note on delivery: Not all dining clubs and memberships on this list can guarantee the first delivery by December 25, so confirm before placing an order if this is important. As a backup, you can write a card detailing what to expect or offer something small as a clue. To prefigure a monthly tea or coffee club, a good mug should do the trick. Consider a good bar tool or liquor bottle if you’ve gone for a Shaker Spoon subscription.

RawSpiceBar

Spices are the backbone of all the great food I have ever had. As someone who cooks a lot but doesn’t have much access to fresh spices, I can say that I personally would love to get them.

Raw Spice Bar sends 2 ounces of a spice or spice blend like Indian garam masala or Japanese furikake. Plus, you get chef-tested recipes to make with each, all for under $ 10 a month. The best part is that the spices are freshly ground – unlike anything you get at the supermarket. And believe me, they will know the difference.

shaker spoon

Shaker Spoon sends all the ingredients (minus the alcohol) packaged so you can make interesting cocktails. What’s included would be really hard to find anywhere locally, so you’re having fun making drinks with some really unique ingredients. We’re talking about handcrafted cherry-vanilla bitters, pineapple shrubs and a bottle of white sage hydrosol spritz.

There are recipes for each themed box, including Fall for Mezcal or All Eyes on Rye, but you can also use the ingredients in freestyle. Each box costs around $ 50 (cheaper if you donate more than a month or if you subscribe). Either way, it will give a lot of inspiration for the aspiring bartender cocktails on your list.

Atlas Café-Club

A coffee subscription is pretty much a foolproof gift. As long as the gifted person, you know, drinks coffee and everything.

I have tried and really liked many of the best coffee subscription services including Trade, Equator, and many more. One of them stands out as a particularly gift and it is the Atlas Coffee Club. On the one hand, coffee comes from all over with lots of interesting roasts from Africa and Central America. Each bag arrives as if it had been sent by a friend (in this case it is!) It’s a very charming way to start your morning.

A three-month gift subscription starts at $ 60 and shipping is free.

Tea runners

You have a few options when it comes to tea subscriptions to give as a gift. I tried five of them earlier this month and one has proven to be particularly good to give as a gift. Tea Runners does an especially enjoyable job with its curated selections or those based on your taste preferences. And the monthly shipments are particularly well put together, wrapped in tissue paper, all in charming boxes. Gift subscriptions for Tea Runners start at $ 21.

Murray cheese

The varieties of cheese are endless, making the cult food a perfect candidate for membership. Iconic New York Cheese Factory Murray’s has several subscription options if you want to treat someone with ridiculously good cheddars, bries, and manchegos every month.

While we’re not talking about budget cheese here, you can prepay for three months of cheese deliveries for a total of $ 175. Each expedition will include three to four cheeses selected by experts from Murray’s masters. I have personally tested Murray’s subscription melty products and can confirm that this is a category A food club to join.

Bokksu

The Bokksu collects some of the best snacks in Japan and compiles them into a tasting box organized once or every month. I have both given and received a Bokksu and it is always a success.

Inside the incomparable orange boxes, you’ll find dishes like seaweed tempura, lime green tea cakes, and Japanese sweets like yuzu candy and strawberry matcha Kit-Kats. Additionally, Bokksu includes informative literature explaining a little bit about each, including historical and cultural significance. Bokksu boxes start at $ 40 per month for subscriptions and $ 50 for a single shipment.

Vineyard

This Vinebox wine subscription (starting at $ 158) is the best way to add variety to someone’s grapes without committing to full bottles. The selections are cleverly divided into glass-sized samples from the world’s leading producers and styles.

Wine may appear to be the gift of withdrawal with a reputation, perhaps legitimate, of impersonality. Winc, like a few of the other wine clubs, hopes to change that by delving deep into your palate and making ordering wine by mail an engaging experience. If you think there’s someone on your list who would like to learn more about wine or their own preferences – strange as it sounds – a Winc membership is a great place to start. The company starts with a profile and palate analysis, then sends you the wines they think you’ll like. Every time you rate them, shipments from various producers start to match your taste better.

Monthly Winc subscriptions start at an affordable price of $ 39 (plus $ 9 shipping) for three bottles per month. You can buy a gift card for as few or as many months as you want to bequeath, or just send a wine shipment. Who doesn’t like it?

It’s one for someone you really love. Or for someone who really enjoys tasting new whiskeys – and hopefully both. Flaviar gift subscriptions start at $ 190 for six months and $ 300 for a full year. A full year equals four tasting boxes plus four full bottles of premium liquor and access to hard-to-find spirits.

You can also pick up Flaviar’s Limited Edition Whiskeys of the Galaxy Advent Calendar for $ 250 with 24 1.7-ounce glasses of whiskeys and whiskeys from around the world. It’s not cheap but it’s a lot of fun for a fan of brown spirits.

Fuego box

Hot sauce lovers are very serious about this and Fuego Box makes a perfect gift for anyone who is a bit heated. Fuego Box Hot Sauce Subscriptions start at $ 18 per month – although $ 30 per month for three bottles is a much better deal.

There are also many unique gift boxes like this one with hot honey, tangy habanero peach sauce and spicy garlic seasoning. In addition, Fuego Box is a small business that supports other small businesses, so you can feel good about it.

Bar & Cocoa

Chocolate is about as safe as it gets, making it a great gift for someone you don’t know what to buy – or a known chocolate lover, of course. The Bar & Cocoa Chocolate Club will be sending out some of the best bars in the business (four full bars per month, to be exact) and we’re not talking about mass-produced Hershey here either. Some of the main chocolate producers are Amano, Chocolate Madagascar and A. Morin. All are ethical, sustainable and eco-conservative. Like I said – the good stuff.

A three month membership starts at $ 129 total, but you can go for a six or 12 month period and any of them can be canceled at any time.
