Don’t be ashamed: there’s no need to shy away from celebrating 4/20, especially with so much going on around town.
As the capital of the first state to legalize cannabis, Denver is poised to reaffirm its 4/20 status this year. Annual celebrations and concerts are back, dispensary offerings are in full swing, and a handful of cannabis lounges are waiting for visitors to enter. Your 4/20 celebration doesn’t have to end there either, with food promotions and cannabis delivery services the two are having fun this year.
To help you navigate all the madness, we’ve created a guide to direct you to Denver’s best 4/20 deals, events, potty shows, delivery services, and food promotions. Happy holidays!
Black Friday-style deals might be 4/20’s biggest selling point now that the factory political movement has stalled in Colorado — but that’s only if you’re willing to wait in line. However, waiting twenty minutes at a dispensary isn’t a Black Friday rush, and you’ll walk away with some of the best weed discounts you’ll find all year. The 1 ounce buy limit sort of eliminates the concept of shop until you drop, but those who can afford to stock up should. Larger edibles are under $10, premium blooms are on sale for under $100 an ounce (and as low as $20 for the lower stuff), and concentrates are also heavily discounted. You can find dozens of some of the Denver-area’s best 4/20 deals in our April 14 issue, while select stores are also running walk-in specials. (Some of these offers may require a physical copy of a coupon, so grab one before the dispensaries run out.)
If we measure the pulse of 4/20 by the number of events held, then the last two years have been almost dead. The holidays are alive and well this year, however, with almost thirty parties, concerts, art classes and other cannabis-related events taking place today and throughout the week. The obvious highlight is the annual 4/20 festival at Civic Center Park, which includes a free concert by Big Boi, Lil Jon and Talib Kweli, but there are plenty of other 4/20 shows in town, including three burlesque shows. , a live performance of Chill Madness and a friendly magic show. Find out what’s happening today and into the weekend in our 4/20 events calendar.
If you live in Aurora or Denver, you don’t have to leave your house to buy weed on 4/20. Both cities allow the delivery of recreational marijuana, and several of these services offer promotions to help grow business. The majority of Aurora stores deliver cannabis, but only a handful of Denver dispensaries have opted in at this time. To participate, all you need to do is be 21 years old with ID, and order and receive your delivery from a residential address in the same city where the dispensary is located. Only Aurora and Denver addresses are currently eligible for dispensary delivery, but anyone living in either city could cut traffic for a lifetime. Scroll through our list of stores offering delivery and place an order when you get home from work. Or wake up. We don’t judge.
While there are a handful of cannabis-only 4/20 events, some fairs, venues, tour operators, and classes allow cannabis use year-round. A few of these venues are fully licensed and open to the public (21+), while others are more private and require you to register before you receive an invitation to enter. If you’re trying to get in somewhere at the last second, joints open to the public are your best bet. Tetra Lounge, Denver’s newly licensed pot parlor for indoor smoking, will host a grand opening party today, while the Coffee Joint, the city’s other licensed cannabis venue, will hold events and sessions (vape and electronic dabbing only) throughout the day. JAD’s Mile High Smoke, a new cannabis bar where patrons can purchase and try cannabis inside the venue, is set to open on Friday, April 22.
