It all started in the early 2000s when the Skoda Octavia was launched in India.

It all started with a dream
Think it was early 2000s and after launching Octavia and tasting success with it, news is abuzz that Skoda is launching the vehicle in India which is used by the Czech President. I was 10 years old and the only source of automotive information for me was the occasional old Autocar magazines I got from my cousin and the advertisements the car manufacturers gave in The Hindu newspaper.
Although I didn’t understand most of the technical details at the time when I saw the advertisement for Superb, I had this feeling of brilliance that I can’t explain.
From then on, every advertisement for Skoda Superb will be correctly cut out and pasted on my notebook. All I wanted back then was to buy Skoda Superb when I had the money. I still remember pestering my dad to get a Sokda (PS: I couldn’t pronounce it at the time) Only to remember that we don’t have a car at home, then I slowly realized the magnanimity of owning a Skoda Superb. I didn’t sleep all night when I was told that one of our relatives, owner of an Octavia, was visiting us the next day. I woke up at 6am, took a bath, put on the best pair of robes I had, and sat by the door waiting for them to arrive. It was even the first time I rode in a Skoda, the uncle was kind enough to take me for a ride.
But your boy didn’t give up. Then my dad released his first family car in 2007 a Swift Dzire and life was good.
Fast forward to 2017, I graduated and got my first job and also bought my first white Polo GT TDI car. And the first visit I made with my Polo was to the Skoda showroom to test the Superb. The people at SGA cars Coimbatore were very helpful at the time and when I first drove it and that only added fuel to the fire. Started a SIP for a Superb installment in 2017 and Polo GT proved to be a loyal companion. But I made sure to visit Skoda showrooms at least once a quarter to take a look at the Superb.
2020 and the pandemic that happened drove about 60,000 km in my Polo and it was just parked. Since returning home, visits to SGA cars have increased and when our house was renovated, SGA was kind enough to send a TD vehicle to the house to ensure the parking lot was suitable for the limo. Team-BHP’s posts about new Superbs and various experiences and reviews only added to the excitement. And in December 2021 I got a call from SGA that there are still stocks of MY 2021 Superb and we can make a deal for the same if I can make the reservation.
The color I was looking for Lava Blue was also available. And on December 16, 2021, a reservation was made. I told them that I would start the loan process but the delivery can only be taken after January 14th as it is an auspicious month. The same was agreed and they helped me with the loan process which was approved within a day, I also sold my Polo. But what is interesting in a story is if everything goes well.
Due to a misunderstanding at the dealership, the car was assigned to another customer and was happily delivered. In addition to the price increase I was told around the second week of January that they had no stock and delivery would be months away due to shortage and demand for semiconductors . Although it was a bitter experience, the dealer promised to take all necessary steps to fix the experience. And with no hope, I just mailed Zac on Jan 20 with all the details (quite a big mail though) and receipts and wasn’t expecting a response. What happened in the next 24-48 hours was magical.
I received a call from my dealer the next day for the gentleman to tell us about the final price and we agreed on prices and offers. They were transparent and offered the same offers as on MY 21. Kudos to the team. Mistakes are fine, but what matters is how they are rectified. I was also informed by the dealership that superb deliveries do not happen as a special case Skoda told them that they will assemble the kit and ship the same which needs to be delivered to the particular customer. As promised, the VIN number was shared on January 27 and the vehicle was shipped from the factory in Aurangabad. The dealer kept me updated on the location of the container and it reached Coimbatore on the evening of January 30 and they were obliged to PDI the next day. And on January 31, as I did 17 years ago, I took 4 new Vredestein tires as a gift and reached the dealer’s yard. The PDI control was good and the vehicle only traveled 15-20 km. I also checked that the vehicle was indeed assembled in January 2022. I informed the bank to release the loan amount and also took the funds I had in SIP and the same was transferred to them .
Delivery was scheduled for February 1. The plan was for a formal puja delivery to take place in the morning around 10am in the yard, then the vehicle will be taken to the RTO, the post registration vehicle will be delivered in the evening. As planned, the 3 of us, myself, mum and dad arrived at 10am sharp, the vehicle was ready, decorated with Garland.
We did the Ceremonial Puja and asked the dealership driver to take us to the nearby temple and we dropped off the vehicle and drove to the relative.
Post that, as promised, the RTO work was completed, the tires were changed and the vehicle was washed again and we were informed by a call that the vehicle would be delivered promptly at 5:30 p.m. We reached the exhibit hall around 5:15pm and were greeted with refreshments. The vehicle was covered with a Skoda Green cover. The cake cutting took place and the whole dealer got together, the cover was removed and I slowly moved the vehicle up the ramp amidst a shower of confetti with a tear or two of joy streaming down my eyes. Patting the back of the 10-year-old who had a dream and didn’t even think about giving it up, which the 27-year-old quickly fulfilled
Will have pictures to talk about.
Will add a review and other details as part of a separate article.
