BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – Volunteers will help provide toys and holiday cheer to local families with an in-car shopping experience.
Massachusetts Salvation Army will host its annual Christmas Castle at the Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center in Dorchester. Massachusetts Division General Secretary Major Marcus Jugenheimer said this will help keep people safe as the pandemic continues to linger ahead of the holiday season.
âThe Christmas Castle has been the name of the event for many years, but this year it is taking place in our community center in Kroc, where we have the opportunity to provide the service outside and ensure security. people during this Covid season. â

To limit in-person contact, volunteers will direct those dropping gifts in their cars to the designated loading area. Their gifts will then be removed from their vehicle by other volunteers. Jugenheimer said the toys will be distributed from Tuesday and continue on Wednesday.
âThose families who come to pick up the toys can either drive across or walk up so that we can provide the outside service to them in the safest way possible.â

Overall, Jugenheimer expects the campaign to provide toys for up to 3,000 children.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to kind of be a bridge between the generosity of those who have been blessed abundantly this year and those who are in need,” said Jugeheimer. âOur volunteers can stand in that gap and be that bridge to provide the necessary support. ”
While the organization actively tries to follow appropriate Covid protocols, families in need of social services will still have the option of speaking with a Salvation Army pastor or social worker for assistance. Anyone interested in volunteering can visit The Salvation Army website.
